Optimized ways to get into OS Error page
Posté le 24/08/2020 11:52
The traditional steps to get into OS Error are as follows:
- Press and hold:
- [F2] [4] [AC/ON] + RESTART (Legacy: fx-7400GII/9750GII/9860GII/CG10/20/50)
- [HOME] [4] [AC] + RESTART (CW: fx-CG100/Graph Math+) - Release RESTART button, then wait for a second.
- Release all keys.
- Press and hold [9] for a second, then release.
- Press and hold [x], until OS Error text appears.
The issue is that the first step requires more than 2 hands and a pointed item that can fit into the RESTART button. Now here are some tricks that allow you to enter OS Error with 2 hands only.
The first trick is to replace RESTART button with the property of exiting Diagnostic Mode pop-up:
- Turn off your calculator.
- Press and hold:
- [OPTN] [x10x/EXP] [AC/ON] (Legacy)
- [x10x] [AC] [ON] (CW)
until the Diagnostic Mode pop-up appears. - Have one of your hands ready for pressing:
- [F2] [4] [AC/ON] (Legacy)
- [HOME] [4] [AC] (CW) - Press [EXIT] and quickly press the required key combo, then continue with the traditional method.
For fx-CG calculators, you can just hold the keys until the pop-up times out and exits automatically.
The second trick requires fewer steps:
- Press and hold:
- [OPTN] [x10x/EXP] [AC/ON] + RESTART (Legacy)
- [BACK] [x10x] [AC] + RESTART (CW) - Release RESTART button.
- Release all keys when OS Error text appears.
If you have fx-CG calculator, immediately release all the keys as soon as you saw the screen lights up, otherwise it will trigger "Please SD Card Insert" page. DO NOT press [EXIT] (Legacy) / [DOWN] (CW) there as it can
corrupt your calculator's filesystem! If you reached this page, press RESTART button to exit and re-do the steps instead. See
this thread for more information.

Can confirm it works on an upgraded fx9750GII, this could be very useful!

@Kbd2:
Nice!! This saves steps and time too

@Tituya
Isn't Graph 75+E a variant of fx-9860GII?

Hmm it's an upgraded graph 35+E.
I don't know the correct international name of this
But it works well

This trick was accidentially created when I was trying to fix my Fugue using Colon's method

Nice trick! The Graph 75+E is basically the fx-9860G II, in France the fx-9860G series got split like this:
• Original fx-9860G = Graph 85
• fx-9860G II SD = Graph 95 SD
• fx-9860G II = Graph 75
Then the Graph 75 evolved into Graph 75+ and Graph 75+E like other French models.

Update
I realized I had posted this tutorial years ago and thus tried this method on my fx-CG20CN. At first I ran into "Please SD Card Insert" page and thought that this method didn't work, then I accidentally press [EXIT] and for some reason it triggers "NOR Flash Program" and I felt like something went wrong so I immediately press RESTART button. Unfortunately, this function made all of my add-ins unable to be opened and I had to do a complete reset.
Later I came across this thread and knew this is for erasing system information, especially [EXIT] which may corrupt the filesystem. Almost screwed up my fx-CG20CN
Interestingly, this key procedure can still lead to OS Error page in fx-CG calcs, but for a short period of time, according to the last section of the above thread.
Updated this tutorial for fx-CG users

Update
I have re-organized the tutorial so that fx-9860GII SH3 calculators can make use of the Diagnostic Mode trick.
I have also just discovered the key combo [BACK] [x10x] [AC] for fx-CG100/Graph Math+ to get into "Please SD Card Insert" page. Therefore you can now use this trick on the new machines
